2018 has been a unique for me for a few reasons.
I’ve travelled more this year than ever and it was one of the goals I had set for 2018 for me and Matt. I’m thankful that we get to spend the time together and broaden our horizons to some of the worlds beautiful cities and countries. Not only that but creatively it has provided me with some great inspiration.
I stepped out of my comfort zone quite a little in 2018:
I met up with fellow creatives.
I submitted my art and myself to an art collective…..and failed
I tried to launch my own art class…..and failed
I was invited to a makers market to sell my art and sketchbooks…..it wasn’t a great success but it was a learning curve.
I taught myself how to knit…using my arms and needles….I made stuff people actually liked.
I taught myself how to hand bind a variety of sketchbooks.
Listing my fails and success’s from 2018 has put into perspective a few things for me…
With every door that has closed in my face and made me feel bad when it has come to my creative life has opened up another door. Everyone gets kicked in the butt creatively for one reason or another but that doesn’t mean that I am down and out. It means I’m learning from my mistakes and coming back stronger. 2019 may have its set backs and I’m expecting that but what I will not do is let it get the better of me and get upset by it.
I can do it…and I will do it..
This was a quote that I put into the first page of my new mini sketchbook for the year and it is a quote that I am going to stick by and remind myself of when times get tough.
So what will 2019 bring for me in my creative life?! Who knows but below is my list of what I want from this year.
- Finish at least one sketchbook
- Submit a piece of my art to a show
- Learn more about myself as an artist and the styles I have
- Concentrate more on my social media presence
- Set up Etsy shop
- Sell a piece of art
- Learn how to knit more things
What creative goals have you set yourself for this new year ?
Let me know in the comments section. Are you setting yourself any creative challenges? I’d love to hear about them.
Happy New Year and I hope that 2019 is a creative and comforting year.
