I love getting new art supplies! Don’t you?!
This is my recent haul from Jackson’s Art Supplies I’ve been wanting to order from here for a while. I received there catalogue in with a issue of Art & Illustration and found the prices to be extremely reasonable. I had completely forgot about them until I opened my new Stillman & Birn sketchbook that I bought in Amsterdam and fell in love with it. I’m extremely fussy about paper in sketchbooks but the Zeta Series paper is so smooth and heavy that it holds a beautiful array of mediums and materials. So like any artist that finds something they enjoy working in I instantly wanted more. I did panic slightly as I was sat pondering where I was going to get this brand of sketchbook from. It’s not a good enough excuse to travel back to Amsterdam.
After using good old google, Jackson’s Art website came up with the sketchbooks and it was like the stars had aligned.
When I finally received my package after the nightmare I had with CollectPlus, I found it to be very well packaged. With the acrylic ink being glass I did wonder how well they would travel but my fears calmed after the initial opening of the box as everything was wrapped in cardboard and a copious amount of bubble wrap!
Just by opening the box you can see what care and attention Jackson’s have when making sure that everything is protected for its journey to its new home and I applaud that greatly. There has been many times when I have bought items and they have been placed in a box far to big without appropriate packing and it’s slid around and been damaged.
So what did I buy…?!
5 x Acrylic Inks – White, Red, Cyan, Yellow and Turquoise.
I’ve never used Acrylic Ink so I’m definitely excited to see what it’s like. I’ve watched a few videos by an artist named Missy Dunaway who I found on CreativeBug and I enjoyed watching how she layered her colours and mixed them to get the results she wanted.
3 x Posca Pens – Lime Green, Turquoise and Black.
I’ve not really used these before but over the past few weeks I’ve seen quite a few people have recommended them and I’d love to see how well they show up on Black Gesso. I think I need to purchase a white one as well.
2 x Stillman & Birn Sketchbooks. One of them is from the Delta series and the other is from the Zeta Series.
I already have an A5 Zeta Series sketchbook. If you haven’t used them then I truly recommend it. I’ve also got a sample pack of paper from them which again I suggest that you buy. It’s free and well worth getting to see the quality and weight of the papers and the many different series they have.
1 x Jackson’s Black Hard Pencil Folio
This was something that was recommended to me by the website and after a little consideration I decided to put it in my basket. I have so many pencil cases that I take with me when I’m traveling and going out and I only ever use the same pens. So I thought to cut down my supplies this would come in handy.
What have you bought recently? What’s the one item you buy more than anything else? Is there something you’ve been wanting to buy for a while but unsure about how to use it ? Let me know in the comments below!
